I'm Kvelling. Just Kvelling.

I couldn't have been happier or prouder the first time I came downstairs and found O. in this attitude:

Otis reading his second Wimpy Kid book!

I've been waiting. And suddenly, here it is: my kid is reading, and totally absorbed in his own book, lost in another world. It's awesome.

(It's also pleasantly quiet around here. Ahhh....)

The first chapter book O. finished on his own was Diary of a Wimpy Kid. And as soon as he finished it, he turned around and started reading it to Roo. I'm sort of amazed that she can sit still for the adventures of a sardonic middle-schooler. But it's a graphic novel, so there are lots of drawings to look at.

Otis reading to Ruby

I must report, though, that O. is not the only kid around here who reads to littler kids.

Ruby reading to her baby

It's contagious.

Incredible!

Has he discovered Dahl books yet? Those were my favorite "chapter books" growing up. The Witches in particular. I found that to be hilarious!

No Dahl yet, though we've read a lot of Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume (the Fudge books) before bed. I suggested starting Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night since we just finished The Mouse and the Motorcycle, but he opted for revisiting a kid's book from his past. But I'm excited about all the possibilities this opens up...

So cute! Makes me glad I took your advice and had two kids. Hopefully this is in my future too!
